New Delhi: A condolence meeting to mourn the demise of the President of the All
India Milli Council (AIMC), Maulana Hakim Mohammad Abdullah Mughesi, was organised by the Council
at the auditorium of the Institute of Objective Studies on April 15, 2026.
The programme began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur'an by Maulana Umar Abdi
Qasmi, followed by their Urdu translation. The proceedings were conducted by AIMC Assistant
Secretary Maulana Shah Ajmal Farooq Nadwi.
Tributes to a Visionary Leader
In his opening remarks, AIMC Assistant Secretary General Shaikh Nizamuddin described Maulana
Mughesi as a great personality who constantly encouraged the younger generation to work for the
welfare of society and spread Islamic knowledge. He highlighted the Maulana's efforts in
establishing several Islamic seminaries for imparting religious education and values to children.
Secretary General of the IOS, Mohammad Alam, recalled his close association with the late Maulana
and shared the guidance he received from him regarding strengthening and expanding the AIMC.
AIMC Assistant Secretary Suleiman Khan said the organisation had lost an important personality. He
noted that Maulana Mughesi served as AIMC President for 21 years and maintained
cordial relations with various Milli organisations.
Noted Islamic scholar Maulana Khalilur Rahman Sajjad Nomani remembered the Maulana's services to
the community and his efforts in promoting inter-community understanding. He said Maulana Mughesi
dedicated his life to religious and contemporary education, carrying out his responsibilities
with courage, positivity, and determination.
Message from AIMPLB Leadership
Chairman of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, in
a message read out by Maulana Shah Ajmal Farooq Nadwi, paid glowing tributes to the late Maulana
and described him as an institution builder.
He stated that dozens of madarsas were established under his guidance and that the AIMC
consistently remained at the forefront of struggles concerning the Muslim community during his
leadership. He also highlighted the Maulana's role in promoting interfaith dialogue and
understanding.
Speakers Recall His Contributions
President of the Delhi unit of AIMC, Haji Pervez Miyan, said he never imagined the Maulana would
leave the world so suddenly. He expressed faith that Allah would improve the situation for
Muslims and prayed for equally capable leadership for the Council.
General Secretary of AIMC Telangana, Mufti Umar Abideen, described Maulana Mughesi as his elder,
mentor, and patron. He informed attendees that a book documenting the Maulana's life and works
would soon be published.
Amir of Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadees Hind, Maulana Asghar Ali Imam Mehdi Salafi, praised the
Maulana's efforts in spreading Islamic education and expanding AIMC's organisational network over
two decades.
Mufti Mohammad Nadir Qasmi of the Islamic Fiqh Academy said that strengthening AIMC after the
Maulana's demise would be the greatest tribute to its three prominent leaders — Qazi Mujahidul
Islam Qasmi, Dr. Mohammad Manzoor Alam, and Maulana Abdullah Mughesi.
Concerns Over the Community's Future
President of AIMC Assam Unit, Hafiz Rasheed Chowdhary, expressed sorrow over the Maulana's demise
and highlighted the challenges faced by Muslims in Assam.
Chairman of IOS, Prof. M. Afzal Wani, observed that the passing of such a major leader had created
a significant void. He said that sincerity, capability, and honesty were the true strengths of
any organisation — qualities that Maulana Mughesi possessed in abundance.
Islamic scholar and author Maulana Abdul Hameed Noumani, who knew the Maulana since 1983–84,
praised his patience, steadfastness, and commitment to strengthening madarsas in
post-Independence India.
General Secretary of AIMPLB, Maulana Fazlur Rahman Mujaddidi, described the Maulana's death as an
irreparable loss to the Ummah. He recalled that the Maulana received the prestigious IOS
Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021 for his contribution to educational empowerment.
Chief Editor of Millat Times, Shams Tabrez Qasmi, said the Maulana's speeches were thoughtful and
insightful, and that he was known for resolving contentious issues.
Remembering His Leadership and Legacy
Head of the AIMC Telangana legal cell, Advocate Afsar Jahan, described him as "a leader who
led the leaders behind."
Mohammad Ahmad from Jamaat-e-Islami Hind praised the Maulana's sincerity and dedication, while
emphasising the need for strong leadership for the Ummah.
The Maulana's son, Maulana Abdul Malik Mughesi, Principal of Jamia Gulzar-i-Husainia, described
his father as "a public property who belonged to all." He highlighted his patience,
balanced decision-making, and commitment to harmony and mutual understanding.
In his presidential remarks, acting AIMC President Maulana Anisur Rahman Qasmi said the Maulana's
life and writings reflected brilliance, patience, and foresight. He added that the Maulana always
valued consultation and worked to cultivate younger leadership within the organisation.
Vice-Chairperson of IOS and AIMC Treasurer Prof. Haseena Hashia said the Maulana worked tirelessly
for educational awakening among Muslims by establishing a chain of madarsas imparting both
Islamic and modern education. She recalled his famous slogan:
تم ہمیں تریشول دو، ہم تمہیں پھول دیں گے
"While you give us tridents, we shall give you flowers."
She further noted that the Maulana was very close to Qazi Mujahidul Islam Qasmi, who had chosen
him as his successor.
